Avi's Insider Tip

Ezeiza being 40km out of town caught me off guard the first time — I'd budgeted for a quick hop like most capital airports and ended up eating into my first afternoon. Build the extra hour into your plans.

Visa-free entry

US, Canada, UK, all EU countries, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, and most of Latin America can enter visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days. Extendable once for another 90 days at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones before the initial stay expires.

Argentina does not run a visa-on-arrival counter for visa-exempt nationalities — you simply receive a 90-day entry stamp. Nationalities that require a visa must apply in advance at an Argentine consulate.

Health & vaccines

No vaccines are legally required for most travelers arriving from the US, Canada, UK, or EU. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and routine vaccines are commonly recommended by travel clinics.

warningYellow fever

Not required or recommended for Buenos Aires city or EZE itself. However, Argentina does have its own limited domestic risk zone: yellow fever vaccination is recommended for travelers to the northern/northeastern forested provinces of Misiones and Corrientes, including Iguazú Falls, and areas bordering Brazil and Paraguay. Argentina does not require proof of vaccination at entry, but if your itinerary includes Iguazú Falls, get vaccinated at least 10 days beforehand.

Customs

$500 USD of goods duty-free for adults arriving by air ($250 for minors); amounts above that are taxed at 50% of the excess value. Declare cash or monetary instruments of $10,000 USD or more (Form OM 2087) — undeclared amounts above this can be confiscated with fines.

e-Visa[VERIFY: Argentina has previously offered an AVE (Autorización de Viaje Electrónica) electronic authorization for a small number of nationalities, e.g. Chinese citizens holding a valid US visa — confirm current eligibility and process at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones before relying on this.]
Passport validityOfficially, your passport must be valid for the proposed duration of your stay (per UK government guidance), though 6 months' validity beyond your travel dates is commonly recommended and safer for connecting flights/insurance purposes.

⚠️ Confirm current entry rules at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones or the Argentine consulate nearest you before booking.

SIM & connectivity

Personal, Movistar, and Claro all have counters at Ezeiza (Personal is the only one physically inside the airport, opposite check-in desk 40, and only accepts card payment). SIMs run roughly 300–500 ARS at the airport; Claro's tourist plan (~25GB/7 days) has been priced around $7 USD. Buying in the city center is usually cheaper.

Argentine Peso (ARS). Argentina lifted its long-standing currency controls ("cepo cambiario") in April 2025, and by mid-2026 the official, MEP, and informal ("blue dollar") exchange rates have converged to within a few percent of each other — the extreme arbitrage gap from 2023 is gone. Still worth checking a live rate before your trip, as peso prices in guides go stale fast due to ongoing inflation. ATMs and card payments are now straightforward compared to the pre-2025 situation.

Getting into town

Note: EZE is about 32–40km southwest of the city center, further out than many capital-city airports — budget 40–60+ minutes. Options: official remise/taxi (~40 min, pre-book at the arrivals counter to avoid overcharging); Tienda León shuttle bus to Madero (near the Hilton), ~50 min; public Urban Bus Line 8, cheapest but 2+ hours. Uber/Cabify pickup is available outside arrivals.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa to visit Buenos Aires?

US, Canadian, UK, EU, Australian, and most Latin American passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 90 days, extendable once for another 90 days at the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones.

Is yellow fever vaccination required for Argentina?

Not required for Buenos Aires or EZE. It's recommended only if your trip includes the northern forested provinces of Misiones and Corrientes — including Iguazú Falls — due to Argentina's own limited risk zone bordering Brazil and Paraguay.

Is Ezeiza airport far from the city?

Yes — EZE is roughly 32–40km southwest of central Buenos Aires, noticeably further out than many capital-city airports. Budget at least 40–60 minutes for the trip depending on traffic and your transport choice.

What happened to the Argentine "blue dollar"?

Argentina lifted currency controls in April 2025, and by 2026 the official, MEP, and informal "blue dollar" rates have converged to within a few percent of each other — the huge arbitrage gap from 2023 is gone. Bring a card and check a live exchange rate before your trip rather than relying on older guides.

What's the cheapest way from Ezeiza to downtown Buenos Aires?

Public Urban Bus Line 8 is cheapest but takes 2+ hours. The Tienda León shuttle (~50 min to Madero) is the best value-for-time option. Pre-booked remise or a rideshare app is faster (~40 min) if you'd rather pay more for door-to-door service.
